Myth 9: Emergency food aid is the best solution

Reality: Much emergency food aid works against the hungry if it serves to reinforce, not change, the status quo.

Emergency food aid can dangerously undercut local food production in the recipient country. It would be better for governments to use their overseas development aid budgets for unconditional debt relief, as it is the foreign debt burden that forces most Developing World countries to cut back on basic health, education and anti-poverty programs.
